How long has Dr. Cohen been practicing?

Dr. Cohen has been in private practice for nearly 10 years. Following medical school he completed two fellowships. He has worked in western Illinois and New Mexico before moving his practice to Skokie, where he has been for over three years.

What kind of doctor is he?

Dr. Cohen is an oculo-plastic and facial plastic surgeon who also has a subspecialty in neuro-ophthalmology. What that means is that he specializes in surgical procedures that are both cosmetic and reconstructive on the entire face but specifically around the eyes.

As a neuro-ophthalmologist he helps patients who have had a sudden unexplained change in vision, double vision or have had a recent trauma like a stroke or head injury. Dr. Cohen has done extensive training in both areas including fellowships and research. In addition, he has spoken both nationally and internationally on both plastic and reconstructive surgery.

What is the cost of the procedures?

Procedure costs vary based on how extensive a procedure you are having. Many patients have different goals when considering elective surgery and that can add or subtract from the options available to them. Dr. Cohen offers complimentary consultations on all cosmetic procedures. He will be happy to talk to you about options as well as cost at that visit.

Are any of the procedures covered by my insurance?

On occasion a procedure may be partially covered by your insurance plan. Through specific in office testing we can often prove the medical benefit from raising a patients eyelids (ptosis repair). However, the procedure to remove excess skin (blepharoplasty) is rarely covered by an insurance plan. Mid-face lifts, laser procedures and skin fillers are not covered.

What is the charge for a consult?

Purely cosmetic consults are completely complimentary.

Is Dr. Cohen available on Saturday’s?

Currently there are no Saturday hours. He sees patients Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8AM – 5PM, on Thursdays’s from 9AM – 7PM and is available on some Fridays.

What kind of laser do you use?

Dr. Cohen uses the Sciton laser. The in office laser procedures can treat skin spots and acne as well as hair removal and skin tightening with great results.

How much downtime will I have following a chemical peel?

Chemical peels will leave your skin red anywhere from two day to a week depending on the type of peel. Your downtime will not be because of discomfort, but redness, tightness and in some cases peeling may make you feel like staying in for a couple of days. Your activity level will not be limited, however you will be asked to use good sun protection while your skin recovers. Dr. Cohen offers post-peel kits for patients as part of the procedure to be sure you have everything you need to stay comfortable when you get home.
